The conviction of former president Donald Trump has sparked conversations among voters across the country, including in Forsyth County. According to Myra Bumgardner, co-founder of the Conservative Women of Forsyth County, the conviction did not come as a surprise to many of Trump’s supporters. “The conviction was not a surprise because we do firmly believe that the whole trial .
.. was done in a manner to interfere with someone running for office,” Bumgardner said.
“And I would suggest that most of us feel this is a tragedy for our country more than anything else — to use our legal system to interfere with the voice of the people.” While Bumgardner did not vote for Trump during the primaries earlier this year, she believes that his recent conviction has spurred many Republican voters to increase their support for the former president. Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts on May 30 in his hush money trial in New York. The decision makes him the first former United States president to be a convicted felon.
