Liverpool supporters growing increasingly twitchy at the lack of transfer movement from their club this summer will have been struggling to sit still at the news that emerged on Wednesday morning. Lille teenager Leny Yoro, regarded as one of the most coveted centre-backs of his generation, is on the brink of a move to Manchester United. The French side have accepted an initial offer of €62million (£52m) for the 18-year-old, who has travelled to England to undergo a medical ahead of negotiating personal terms.

Given the expectation had been that Yoro would end up at Real Madrid, the imminent deal with United has come as a major surprise to many followers. After all, losing a player to the behemoth of the Bernabeu is one thing - seeing a one-time target instead rock up down the other end of the East Lancs Road at their most bitter rivals is quite another. There's no escaping the fact that, should Yoro's move to Old Trafford be completed, the optics will not look good for Liverpool at a time when a new-look recruitment and management team continues to get their collective feet under the table at .
