AREA ROUNDUP Pitching duels were the name of the game during an American Legion baseball doubleheader split between the Lewis-Clark Twins and Owyhee Canes on Saturday at Church Field. Lewis-Clark (12-12) earned a 5-4 victory in the first game in comeback fashion. The Canes mustered a comeback of their own to win 2-1 in eight innings in the second contest.
Trace Green was one out away from a complete game pitching in Game 1. Green gave up four runs, only two earned, six hits and four walks while he struck out six on 111 pitches. Cody Ray entered to earn the final out.
Owyhee led 4-1 after three innings, but a pair of two-run frames in the fourth and fifth for the Twins turned the tide. Guy Krasselt doubled to left in the fifth inning to score Green to tie the game. Krasselt would score on a wild pitch three batters later for the difference-maker.
Both starters filled the strikeout column in Game 2. Hunter Mahaffey of the Canes went five innings, gave up one run on five hits with one walk and struck out 10 on 76 pitches. Levi Anderson of Lewis-Clark went seven and gave up just one run on two hits with four walks.
He fanned 10 batters on 105 pitches. Ray got the Twins on the board with a single in the third inning and drove in Green. L-C was unable to add to its run total.
The Twins were two outs away from a twinbill sweep, but with the bases loaded Cohen Cole hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. The Canes added another in the eighth for the win. GAME 1 Owyhee 112 000 0 — 4 6 .
