I want to preface my following remarks by stating that the poster which I have displayed in my front window for the past seven months does not contain the name of either of the finalists in the upcoming presidential election. Having stated that, I would like to refer to an old adage which applies to the game of poker, but is appropriate in referring to life in general and specifically to the upcoming election: “you can only play with the hand you’re dealt and not with a hand that you wished you had!” Many political elections are reduced to the old-fashion popularity contest; much like we experienced in high school for our class president. However, our every-four-year presidential election cannot be viewed in that way; the stakes are too high, the entire world can be affected, and our way of life destroyed by a third world war! Yes, when two of the nuclear powers: Russia and North Korea are aligned with the end game of China and Iran, our democratic way of life is seriously threatened.
This is no time for a popularity contest at the polls. We cannot allow our intelligence to be insulted by clever TV messages about the candidates. And we cannot allow a "shadow government" to make the decisions of the man who we put in the White House! It has often been said in recent years that these political parties are not the parties of previous occupants of our White House.
One only has to look back at the presidencies of Harry Truman or John Kennedy. Or Ronald Reagan or George W. Bu.
