A photo of Lee Anderson's breakfast has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter). The image of the full English, posted by the Ashfield MP at 9.09am on Tuesday, May 21, has been seen 3.
5 million times in just over 30 hours. Anderson captioned the picture with the words: "Full English Breakfast. A great start to the day but how long before some highly educated expert tells us our traditional breakfast is racist?" And, in true Anderson fashion, the quote started a debate online - with some people discussing his words and others discussing the contents of the plate.
On a black tray with a card stating "reserved for members only" on it, the breakfast appears to contain two thin bacon rashers, two blackened sausages, one hash brown, one fried egg, a load of mushrooms, a slice of black pudding and a dollop of ketchup. Bassetlaw MP Brendan Clarke-Smith - whom Anderson named as one of his four political "friends" that he wouldn't campaign against in a general election - responded: "Outrageous omission of baked beans from that breakfast." Anderson told him he would bring him some "cold ones".
