Charles Oliver, a former Royal household staff member, divulged details about one such favoured meal in his book "Dinner at Buckingham Palace." It appears that unique breakfast tastes are a family trait, as King Charles maintains an unconventional morning routine as well. In his writings prior to the Queen's passing, Oliver noted that the Queen "has been partial to kippers since the war years".



He recounts a charming incident where she and Princess Margaret were enticed by the "compelling aroma" while strolling around Windsor Castle, reports the Mirror . He continues: "They politely knocked on the door and were welcomed into the old-fashion kitchen with its great iron oven range and its frying kippers. Mrs Bruce gave the princesses their first taste of kipper, and showed them how to cook the fish as well," as reported by O.
