Lagos State government is not relenting in its bid to boost its tourism offering as it has concluded plans to host a cultural tourism event, tagged Afropolis. The debutant event, which is in partnership with Qudus Onikeku, Nigerian multimodal international artiste, is a Pan – Africa celebration of Black Cultural Heritage, creativity and innovation. This development was disclosed during the week by the Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, at a Town Hall meeting held in Lagos, with different stakeholders in attendance.
.She said the goal of Afropolis, slated between October 26 and November 3, was to foster partnership, inspire innovation, celebrate the diverse traditions and creativity of Africa as well as boost tourism. Benson-Awoyinka noted that the carnival was a platform for African creatives to come together to showcase their talents, exchange ideas and collaborate on groundbreaking projects as well as create truly unique things.
According to her, the festival will feature a curated marketplace, traditional and contemporary performances, exhibitions, and many other activities.
