There’s a smartly dressed, somewhat intimidating looking man across the room. And he can’t take his eyes off Keira Knightley. As an A-lister famed for her award-winning turns as an actor as much as her chic sense of style and glorious looks, that she has an admirer comes as no surprise.
In reality however, the man has little interest in Knightley. His only concern, as part of the Chanel security team, is the thing around her neck. And in her earlobes.
And on her finger. We are at a gala dinner hosted by the Parisian maison at the Casino de Monte-Carlo, and Knightley is wearing, along with an ethereal tulle, beaded dress from the Chanel spring/summer 2024 Haute Couture collection, jaw-dropping pieces of jewellery from Sport, Chanel’s latest Haute Joaillerie collection. “Is he going to need to follow me to the loo?” asks Knightley with a laugh, adding that being adorned in such precious pieces “is absolutely terrifying.
” And who can blame her? The Graphic Line necklace around her neck alone – a mix of white gold, platinum, diamonds, sapphire, rubies and onyx – easily falls into 7 figures. “Sapphires are a very very exciting thing. But you know what’s really interesting about this necklace? Given how big it is, I actually can’t feel it at all.
It is so light. I could definitely take it home. And then I can wear it as a tiara on the school run,” she jokes.
Chanel’s latest Haute Joaillerie collection pays homage to the “sport” atelier Gabrielle Chan.
