WINSTED – Having lived a long and wonderful life, D. John Vaccari, 99, “ever-loving” husband of the late Marion Coffey Vaccari, passed away peacefully at home on May 19, 2024, with his daughters by his side. Born in Winsted on Sept.

22, 1924, John was the son of the late Adelaide and Severino Vaccari, the fourth of nine children. Winsted was John’s home into his 100th year. He attended St.



Anthony School and he began his high school years at The Gilbert School. His high school years were interrupted when he chose to enlist in the Navy. He was proud to serve his country alongside other members of “the greatest generation”.

John served in the South Pacific on the USS Wasp as an Aviation Radio Man 2-C. In his elder years, John enjoyed sharing with others the pride he felt in having served his country. Together with his wife, Marion, they owned and operated Vaccari’s-Young Fashions for over 37 years.

During his tenure as a local businessman, John served on the board of directors of the Winsted Memorial Hospital and Winsted Savings Bank. He was a volunteer fireman for the Winsted Fire Department, serving as Captain and Deputy Chief for several years. John was a lifetime parishioner of St.

Joseph Church where he served as an usher and lector until his 90th birthday. Additionally, he was a past member of the St. Joseph Church Parish Council, Finance Committee and the Building Committee for the current St.

Anthony School building. He also enjoyed being involved in The W.
