Glastonbury Festival has kicked off in full force, celebrating its 52nd year since opening its gates. The site at Worthy Farm has become a hotspot for music enthusiasts and festival lovers, welcoming some patrons who have been attending for decades. Among them is Dan Thomas, who is has emerged as somewhat of a Glastonbury guru in recent years, his insights and pro tips on the festival creating a buzz on social media.
Having attended the epic music event for two decades now, he's seen first-hand how it has moulded into the spectacular festival that thousands flock to each year. He harked back to his early Glasto days with fondness, remembering Muses headlining gig in 2004, and Paul McCartney's - not once but twice in 2004 and 2022 - as some of his most memorable sets. As a die-hard Beatles enthusiast, he said: "He was fantastic on both occasions.
" Special mentions went to Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus , and Stevie Wonder, which, according to Dan, took him by surprise. He mentioned that the country music diva Dolly pulled in possibly the largest crowd ever for the festival's afternoon 'legend's slot. This year will see Shania Twain gracing the same stage.
Glastonbury Festival is renowned for its eclectic mix of music, but the experience extends far beyond what's captured on camera. Though many get their Glasto-fix from the telly or radio, Dan insists that these channels only broadcast a fraction of what the festival has to offer. The festival's hidden gems include Theatre and Circu.
