Homegrown actors are certainly having their moment in the spotlight recently. From Cillian Murphy’s Oscar success to Barry Keoghan’s rising star, it seems that the luck of the Irish is continuing to prevail. Irish actors have long broken through geographical and class barriers to gain success in Hollywood.

However, one of our biggest breakout stars, and an actor who made his name by playing British secret agent James Bond, is Pierce Brosnan. Known for his suave and charm on screen, in real life Pierce is much the same. By all accounts, he is down-to-earth and has routinely been described as a “very nice man”.

Meath where he was raised mainly by his maternal grandparents. Pierce’s start in life was far from the glamorous Hollywood dream that he would one day achieve.

His father, a carpenter, abandoned the family when Pierce was just a baby. When he turned four, his mother moved to England to work as a nurse, to try and create a better life for her and her son. Pierce previously said he respected her brave decision, but he only got to see her twice a year as a result.
