I'm from Canada and I've figured out Australia's 'ugly' solution to the freezing weather Alexandra Tuohey highlights Australia's 'ugly' solution to the freezing cold READ MORE: UK expat's rant about men, the cold, and road rage in Australia By Shania Obrien For Daily Mail Australia Published: 23:52, 8 July 2024 | Updated: 00:10, 9 July 2024 e-mail View comments A Canadian expat has exposed the 'ugly' solution Australians have come up with to battle the biting cold Down Under. Alexandra Tuohey , who now lives in Victoria, was shocked when she realised the 'coldest [she] had ever felt' was living in a Melbourne share house in July despite coming from the notoriously icy Canada. 'Australian homes are so cold that they actually invented their own type of clothing to survive the winter: indoor thermal wear,' she said in a video .
'Almost all homes [in Canada ] have central heating [that] wouldn't go off all winter. The homes are well insulated, though, so it retains heat better,' she added. Alexandra identified three items essential to surviving an Australian winter indoors: an Oodie, Ugg boots, and a Kathmandu puffer jacket.
'The Oodie may be the ugliest thing you've seen anyone put on their body but it's vital to survive winter,' the expat said. Oodies are wearable blankets with hoods and a large pouch in the front. The loungewear is particularly handy in Australia where most homes are colder indoors than outside during the winter.
'[The Oodie] will cause you to sweat uncontroll.
