A FORMER Chick-fil-A employee recently shared inside info from the company online. The fast food chain is known for its chicken, but the ex-worker had surprising info on its desserts. The worker shared their secrets in an “ask me anything” post on Reddit .
The post gained dozens of comments from curious customers. One consumer asked about the chain’s Icedream dessert. “Is Icedream really ice cream?” they asked.
“I had it before and I don't think it's ice cream.” The former worker confirmed the customer’s suspicions. “It isn’t actually ‘legally’ ice cream,” they claimed.
Chick-fil-A describes its Icedream as “A delicious, frozen dairy treat with an old-fashioned vanilla taste.” It does not refer to it as ice cream, despite appearances. According to the employee, Icedream doesn’t have enough butter fat to be considered ice cream.
“Icedream doesn’t contain as much milk fat as typical branded ice creams do, so there’s more room for air,” they said. The US Department of Agriculture says that to be considered ice cream, a dairy dessert must be made of at least 10% milk fat. According to the employee, and food blog Daily Meal , Icedream is only 3% milk fat.
That means it technically cannot be called ice cream. “Icedream can basically be considered a low-fat dairy dessert,” the employee said. The internet has become a direct source for many looking to find out how their favorite brands operate.
