Unlike American ice cream, New Zealand-style ice cream is made from a base of hard ice cream blended with frozen real fruit through a special blender. The result is a fruity soft-serve ice cream. Kim Flinchbaugh and her husband had that type of ice cream for the first time when visiting their daughter and son-in-law in Portland, Oregon.
It inspired them to open a store for it on Market Street in Camp Hill. Each serving of Joey Jak’s Real Fruit Ice Cream is custom-made. Customers can watch their orders being prepared.
They include a choice of toppings. Premade half pints will also be available to purchase soon. The ice cream shop shares space with Tanya’s Cookies , a Camp Hill cookie legend.

Customers who choose the non-dairy option comment that it’s the best non-dairy ice cream they’ve ever had. The simplicity and wholesomeness along with the many fruit options make it an extremely appealing alternative to other ice cream products. How’s it made? We take a hard vanilla ice cream base or a frozen non-dairy vanilla base and mix it with frozen fruit in a special blender from New Zealand, and the end product fashions soft-serve ice cream.
