If you don't do the job, it's easy to assume a receptionist might sit on a comfy chair all day taking calls, but Dorset-based reception manager Chris says her job is anything but sedentary. "I spend 30 hours a week walking up and down the GP surgery stairs – I often clock 12k steps by the time I get home at 7pm every night," she says. Because of this, her choice of footwear is incredibly important.

But Chris also says she likes to look put together at work, opting for sandals that pair well with mid-length skirts. Most sandals, however, tend to dig into the skin while also offering very little in the way of foot support. FitFlops , on the other hand, are built for people who spend hours rushing around.

Chris says the brand's Gracie Metallic Leather Back-Strap Sandals, £100 , have changed her workwear wardrobe – and her daytime comfort – since she discovered them a few weeks ago. "I love the look of sandals but by the end of the day, the soles of my feet ache and I'm desperate to take them off. When I wear these FitFlops I feel like I'm walking on cushions! I've had a few people ask where they're from.

" Though the £100 price tag may be steep for some, they're built to last you a long time. Plus, it's hard to put a price tag on something you need to wear for hours and hours each day. FitFlop sandals are made to absorb shock and reduce muscle strain.

They feature specially designed soles with pockets of high rebound cushioning, a mid-section arch contour to hug your feet.
