ORLANDO -- On the final matchday for Group A at the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa America, two nations look to punch their ticket to the quarterfinals, as Canada gets set to take on Chile. Canada had a rather inauspicious start to the tournament. Despite putting forth a good effort against heavily favored Argentina, they still ended up losing 2-0.
Against Peru on Tuesday, Canada played a lot better, but needed the Peruvians to go down to 10 men to score their first goal in the Copa. Thanks to a couple of clutch saves late, they managed to win, 1-0. Chile kicked off their run in the tournament with a draw against hated rival Peru, but they lost in stunning fashion to Argentina.
They gave up a goal late in the second half, leading to a 1-0 loss. Having yet to score a goal in the tournament is not boding well for La Bicolor, but there is still a chance they will move on to the quarterfinals for the 11th consecutive tournament. In order for Canada to move on to the knockout stage in their first invite to the Copa America, they need to at least pick up a point against Chile, and have Peru not beat Argentina by more than a single goal on Saturday.
For Chile, a win over Canada is needed, and Peru would have to beat Argentina by a lesser margin in order for Chile to advance. Chile is 2-1-1 against Canada, though they have not met since October 1995. Canada (1-0-1) vs.
Chile (0-1-1) When: Saturday, June 29 Time: 8 p.m. ET Where: Inter&Co Stadium (Orlando, Fla.
