A GP nurse has shared some helpful advice for anyone who’s worried about getting ill at festivals this summer. You might be used to coming home with a cold, sore throat or pounding headache, but when you’re in the midst of a festival, going for a pee may be more than a simple inconvenience. Making sure you’re hydrated is important, but you may face some bladder issues should you not be properly looking after your health - and dehydration in the heat can give you some major pain in the back.

Carmel Deane, general practitioner nurse and Femfresh ambassador, explained that dehydration could increase your risk of getting a urinary tract infections (UTIs). She told Metro: “Dehydration is a significant concern at festivals and can increase your risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs). To mitigate this, it’s crucial to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.



Avoid excessive consumption of caffeine and alcohol, as these can contribute to dehydration.” While it might be tempting to start drinking booze early on at festivals, this can increase your chances of becoming dehydrated. Try to alleviate its effects by drinking water between your pints.

Another factor which could affect your urinary health is your choice of clothing. Festivals have become fashion shows and runways for the masses, but Carmel recommends avoiding the likes of tight bottoms, scratchy sequins and certain fabrics.
