Local kids had the opportunity to explore the world of 3D printing during a workshop hosted by the Stewart C. Meyer Harker Heights Public Library on Saturday. Led by Jazmyne Lee, a library clerk and 3D printing expert, the event introduced children to the basics of this innovative technology.
“We are learning the fundamentals of 3D printing and showing beginners how it works and what they can create,” Lee said. Lee’s journey into 3D printing began in high school when her teacher introduced her to the technology. As the library received its first 3D printer as a donation last year, she was put in charge.
“I only knew what my teacher told me and what I had seen on TikTok, but I was the only person with the most information about it,” she said. To enhance her knowledge, Lee visited Austin and Round Rock libraries with 3D printers, consulted with colleges, and gathered insights from various sources. “I learn more and more each day, and every time I am holding one of these classes, I learn something different, and that is something I really like because I am able to give people better information,” she said.
The workshop began with a brief history of 3D printing, followed by an explanation of the technology and its mechanics. “It’s interesting to see how the filament is being turned into 3D objects by adding layers and layers of material to make a model,” Lee said. “The key is to get your mind rolling because, honestly, you can create anything if you put your.
