The explosive wicketkeeper batter recently hung his boots from cricket, representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 – his final outing. The Tamil Nadu cricketer was a regular in the IPL, featuring since the inaugural season. He plied his trade for six teams before retirement in 2024.



Beginning with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2008, he joined Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2011 and was a part of Mumbai Indians in 2013, where he lifted the IPL trophy. He was again bought by Delhi in 2014 and went on to represent RCB and Gujarat Lions in 2015 and 2016 respectively. The Gujarat side retained him in 2017.

In 2018, he joined Kolkata Knight Riders and led them to the playoffs. He was again bought by RCB in the 2022 auction and since then refurbished his role to that of finisher in his three-year-stint till 2024. In an IPL career spanning 257 matches, Karthik amassed 4,842 with 22 fifties.
