The family of a British grandmother who fell into a coma after a mobility scooter accident in Turkey are desperately trying to raise funds to bring her back home. Linda Bateson, 72, suffered a broken back after falling off her scooter during a family holiday in Oludeniz, Turkey. After the accident, she was taken to a hospital where she developed pneumonia and a lung fungal infection, leading to her being placed in a coma.
Her family now wants to fly her back to the UK, but they say they have been told they might have to cover the medical bills themselves as they say the insurance company is disputing why her high blood pressure was not correctly listed as hypertension. While the exact cost of Linda's medical bills remains unknown, the family has been quoted a staggering £45,000 for a private medical flight back to the UK. Linda's granddaughter, Elisha Thompson, 24, said: "It's been heart-breaking.
We are trying so hard to bring her home so I've had to sort all of the insurance while working a full-time job. This has become my whole life because I just desperately want her home. We know she wants to be home because she's been there way too long now and we are desperate.
" Following the June accident, Linda was moved to a hospital three hours away in Antalya, Turkey. There, she developed pneumonia and a fungal infection, which led to her being rushed to the intensive care unit (ICU) and her family being told to 'prepare for the worst.
