A local artist is making a statement in the Glasgow fashion scene with her newly launched studio store at the Barras Market. Hannah Johnstone is a flourishing artist and designer originally from Cumbernauld, now living in the city. The 29-year-old was an abstract artist, making interior pieces for various clients however, decided to bite the bullet and become the face of her own brand.
She is now the founder of hannah christina studio, a wearable art store located in the vibrant Barras Market. Hannah takes pre-loved jackets and creates uniquely designed, and hand-painted wearable art. Hannah said the inspiration came off the back of realising that the art world was unaffordable.
"It was the last thing on people's mind, especially in this current financial climate. I wanted to put my art on a product that's affordable and available to everyone.", she explained.
Her pieces are all unique with not one item being the same as she hand paints them individually and always adds that "personal touch". She added: "Everyone wants an individual one off piece, that's where the idea of upcycling pre-loved clothing came from". Hannah prefers to focus on leather jackets where she buys from pre-owned websites such as eBay and Vinted.
Each jacket is individually designed and hand painted - sometimes taking up to three weeks to complete. Each piece ranges in price starting at around £100 to £150. The studio store opened its doors on Saturday, April 27, with one of Hannah's jackets already mak.
