A poll revealed that VHS tapes, Woolies' pick 'n' mix sweets, leg warmers and David Bowie are some of the most popular things about the period.

Sixty per cent of Gen Z – widely thought of as those born from 1997 and 2010 – picked the Eighties. And nine in ten of them said they believe the decade's fashions have returned, while retro games have also become popular again. Seven in ten of them reckon it was the best time to be a teenager – though nearly half also admit they cringe when they look back at photos of themselves. Most said they feel sad that younger Britons will never understand what it is like to have on.
