Competition in the segment is expected to intensify with the expected return of the Ford Endeavour via the CBU route later this year. Toyota has been steadily rolling out the mild-hybrid versions of the Hilux and Fortuner in several global markets.

Considering the Fortuner’s significant popularity in India, it is likely that this technology will be introduced there in the near future. The mild-hybrid system is engineered to complement the GD series diesel engine, improving acceleration, fuel efficiency, and overall vehicle performance while also reducing emissions. The MG Gloster ranked second in sales, with 135 units sold in May 2024 compared to 217 units during the same period in 2023, reflecting a year-on-year decline of 38 per cent.
