The funeral of renowned Gaelic Games commentator Micheal O Muircheartaigh was held in St Mary’s Church in Dingle, Co Kerry on Saturday. Mr O Muircheartaigh died on Tuesday morning, aged 93, in a Dublin hospital, surrounded by family members. The voice of the former RTE broadcaster from Co Kerry became synonymous with the GAA in Ireland during a career that spanned decades.
Former Kilkenny hurler and Ex-President of the GAA, Nickey Brennan hailed the former commentator "He was seen as the voice of the GAA, he was the person who communicated the actions on the field in a very descriptive way," Brennan told Virgin Media's 'The Tonight Show'. The renowned RTE GAA commentator began his career behind the mic in 1948 and regularly used the Irish language during his commentaries.
