FLUSHING, MI – Screams could be heard hundreds of feet away as children braved the carnival rides during Flushing’s SummerFest. At the Riverview Park on a sweltering Saturday, hundreds of people wandered around the Skerbeck Family Carnival. With a purchase of a wristband, guests could ride the dozen carnival rides as many times as they wanted.

There was an old-fashioned merry-go-round and the Freak Out, which swung adrenaline-seekers higher than anything else in sight. There were also fun and challenging games where participants aimed to win the top prizes and biggest stuffed animals. One child proudly marched around with a stuffed alien twice the size of them.

No carnival would be complete without the classic carnival treats. Platters of Elephant Ears, deep-fried Oreos, hot dogs, burgers and Philly cheesesteaks were all available. Cold drinks, slushies, and fresh squeezed lemonade were available to compliment the meal.

Near the bandstand, hosted by Sisco Salon and Spa, was the third annual cornhole tournament. Kacie Sisco, of Flushing, owner of Sisco Salone and Spa, began to hold a cornhole tournament to provide a fun activity for the community. The proceeds go towards future events.

This year, the biggest tournament yet, had 27 teams competing for a prize pool of $500 to be divided by the top three teams. Other teams are awarded either drink tickets or a gift card. Directly outside the carnival gates is a vendor alley with items available including hats and shirts, home.
