First Day of Spring have shared new single ‘You’re Blue I’m Blue’. The band’s excellent debut EP ‘Fly Over Apple Blossom’ landed last year, merging guitar-based songwriting with a clear sense of individuality. Continuing to move forwards, First Day Of Spring enter summer with something new, built with a distinct vein of confidence.

Out now, new single ‘You’re Blue I’m Blue’ is reminiscent of Spiritualized’s cosmic songwriting in places, while also having the sharp-edged immediacy of the Strokes. Deep believers in the song as an artefact, First Day Of Spring opted to record the single in a fashion more akin to their live shows. Using this “plug in and go” method, First Day Of Spring transform ‘You’re Blue I’m Blue’ into a rattling piece indie rock, the keening melodies underpinning a lyric that discusses tribal identity, and how we can navigate one another’s limitations.

Out now, it radiates energy, recalling the dynamism of ‘Surfer Rosa’. The band comment..

. ‘You’re Blue I’m Blue’ is predominantly about tribes and ultimately the ability for those tribes to co-exist harmoniously and be among each other in the present. The partnership vocally with dear friend and vocal lead Mariah Maines has been a key part of the evolution of the song re-imagination.

We wanted to make an unapologetic alt song heavily guitar-based plug in and go. Like PIXIES or something. Tune in now.
