(Photo by Richard Pelham/Getty Images) England were the big winners as the Euro 2024 last-16 match-ups were finalised, with Gareth Southgate’s side set to avoid the majority of the tournament’s major teams until a potential final meeting. England had looked likely to face the Netherlands ahead of the Group F clashes that rounded out the group stage, but Georgia’s shock 2-0 win over an already-qualified Portugal changed the seedings.

After topping their group in unconvincing fashion, England will now face Slovakia on Sunday evening for a place in the quarter-final. A win in that game will see them face Switzerland or Italy in the last eight, while Romania, the Netherlands, Austria or Turkey would await in a semi-final. The other side of the draw sees heavyweights Germany, Spain, France, Portugal and Belgium battling it out.

Belgium’s punishment for failing to beat Ukraine in their final group game is a daunting last-16 clash against France. Germany and Spain could face each other in the quarter-final on that side of the draw, while only one of France, Portugal and Belgium can make the semi-final.
