The first Esports World Cup has begun (Twitch) The inaugural Esports World Cup has just kicked off in spectacular fashion, with fireworks, dancers, LED drones, and the unveiling of the new trophy that over 500 teams will be fighting for. There will be 22 events across 21 different games, that fans can sink their teeth into, including League Of Legends, Call Of Duty: Warzone, Counter-Strike 2, EA Sports FC 24, and Fortnite. While the opening ceremony was impressive, that's nothing compared to the prize pool, with $62.

5 million (£49 million) up for grabs during the event. The event is run by the Esports World Cup Foundation and funded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, and is set to be an annual tournament held in the country's capital, Riyadh. Though teams compete in their own esports tournaments, with their own specific prize pools, the Esports World Cup also introduced a new cross-game format called Club Championship, 'which will decide.
