Colorado’s Republican Party is in shambles. Not only has the party fallen sorely behind in the state — the House, the Senate and the governor’s mansion are all controlled by Democrats — but the party itself is being led by a figure who seems intent on spreading hate, stoking divisions and further eroding the party’s support. The laundry list of divisive, self-destructive actions from the party, and its chair, Dave Williams, culminated recently with an email with the subject line, “God Hates Pride.

” In the email, Williams wrote, “The month of June has arrived and, once again, the godless groomers in our society want to attack what is decent, holy and righteous so they can ultimately harm our children.” On X, Williams went further, posting, “Burn all the #pride flags this June.” Williams’ outrageous and deeply troubling rhetoric is, unfortunately, nothing new — either for him or the state GOP.

As a student at CU Colorado Springs back in 2007, Williams was impeached from his role as student body president for discriminating against an LGBTQ campus group — and he has not exactly been quiet on his anti-gay agenda since then. Similarly, Colorado — and the state GOP in particular — has a long history of anti-gay rhetoric, which ultimately culminated in our state’s shameful 2006 ban on same-sex marriages. (That ban, while unenforceable after the U.

S. Supreme Court’s 2015 ruling making same-sex marriage legal, is still on the books. An amendment wil.
