Slaidburn has been revealed as the most stylish place to live in East Lancashire, in a list of the 'most stylish' places by online furniture store, Furniturebox. Lancaster took the number one spot in the county as a whole, Great Eccleston was third, Barley was fourth and Waddington was fifth. Slaidburn is a picturesque village in the Ribble Valley , with plenty of history.
The 10th century ‘Angel Stone’ carving can be seen at Slaidburn Heritage Centre and St. Andrew church and can be traced back more than ten centuries. Slaidburn inspired a fictional village featured in one episode of the Inspector Lynley Mysteries, which were based on a series of books by author Elizabeth George.
It was also used as the backdrop for an episode of Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, which aired between 1996 and 1998. Locations were ranked according to the beauty of the buildings, the scenery, how ‘Instagrammable’ were, their best features, and their popularity as a filming location. Furniturebox surveyed 5,000 people, with panels in each big city and county including Lancashire.
A Furniturebox spokesperson said: “All 60 places on the list would have been worthy winners and show why the UK is such a stylish country, loved by artists, film-makers and tourists from all over the world. “What is interesting is how influential Instagram has become in boosting tourism in many of our top 60, particularly around Lancashire.
