The Whippets started in fine fashion as they took control in the second quarter and cruised to a 19-5 victory over Dallastown in a PIAA Class 3A first-round contest on a warm Tuesday afternoon at DiSerafino Stadium. Ava Findora led the way with the way with five goals. Her sister Brinn added four and Rylee Slate collected three.

The Whippets (22-1) steam into the quarterfinals on Saturday and will face either District 3 champion Manheim Township or the second place team from District 7, Pine-Richland at a site and time to be determined. “I was a little concerned about that,” said West coach Emily Ernest. “When you go that far along, then have a loss like that, you’re kind of wondering how’s everybody going to handle it.

But, I think it’s even made them kind of hungrier.” The Wildcats (15-3), the third place team from District 3, tried to stay with the deeper Whippets, but the heat, the toil of a long season and a more talented team took their toll. “They’re a very good team and they have a very deep bench,” said Dallastown coach Joe Alex.

“Unfortuantely, we ran out of gas a little bit.” West started off quickly as Ava Findora won the draw, sent a pass to Autumn Bla.
