ORCHARD PARK — Surprise crossed Rasul Douglas’ face when his contract was mentioned. The Buffalo Bills cornerback seemed genuinely taken aback when told he was entering the final year of his deal. He was also honestly in the dark when he asked whether safety Micah Hyde was coming back this season.

Douglas will turn 30 years old before the regular season begins and typically players in his position are searching for one last payday, but he says it’s all about football and that’s what he was focused on during the second day of mandatory minicamp Wednesday. He made an immediate after being acquired from the Green Bay Packers at the trade deadline, making four interceptions and two fumble recoveries in nine games. Douglas now has goals like making the Pro Bowl or being an All-Pro for the first time and letting his contract take care of itself.

“Hopefully upstairs they see and think that I'm worth something and decide to put a little bit of green in my pocket,” Douglas said after practice Wednesday. As long as Douglas is healthy — he suffered a foot injury in the regular-season finale, missed the AFC wild-card round and hobbled through the next game — he will be a big part of Buffalo’s defense, especially after the team parted with Tre’Davious White during the offseason. But Douglas is entering his eighth season and the Bills have other young cornerbacks like Christian Benford, who was the top-ranked cornerback in zone coverage last season, according to Pro Foo.
