San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has signed a new record-breaking two year contract extension worth $38 million - reinforcing his place as the best paid player in his position in the NFL . He will net a staggering $19 million per season, with his performances en route to the Super Bowl in 2023 having been rewarded. The 27-year-old's new agreement was confirmed by ESPN and comes after the fan favorite mysteriously missed the team's OTAs - to the surprise of even his coach, Kyle Shanahan .

However, after reporting for duty at a mandatory training camp at Santa Clara this week, it appears that he is ready to hit the ground running ahead of the 2024 campaign. That is after he exprienced a standout year in his career last season, emerging as offensive player of the year after rushing for 14 touchdowns and 1,459 yards. The latter figure represented the best showing of his career so far, as he paid the 49ers back for the faith showed in him when they made him the league's best paid running back with a $64 million four years ago.



Having signed on to ply his trade in San Francisco until at least 2027, he is set for a pay increase of some $8 million in his first couple of seasons - with an additional $24 million also guaranteed. This is well-timed for McCaffrey as he prepares for a landmark period in his personal life too as he is set to get married to long-term girlfriend Olivia Culpo.
