ChordPlay, an all-male barbershop quartet from East Texas, headlines the Dogwood Jamboree at 7 p.m. June 29 in the Palestine High School Auditorium.

Titled “Country Hit Parade,” the show features music and comedy performed by more than a dozen talented individuals from Palestine and the surrounding region. The barbershop harmony group includes the voices of John McIntire of Palestine, Bryan Black of Longview, Brad Gadt of Rusk County and Michael Hurley of Tyler. Their style is often seen as old-fashioned music but McIntire said the group’s music has a broad appeal.

“Barbershop isn’t just all old songs,” McIntyre said. “We do have some that are newer.” The group’s a capella harmonies will feature country western and patriotic music and an arrangement of “It’s A Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.

McIntire said ChordPlay is available to perform at many different occasions, from church services to birthday parties to singing telegrams. Jamboree producer Dan Manuel praised the group’s variety and the quality of their previous performance. “They did such a good job when they were on the show before that I thought I’d try to get them back,” Manuel said.

Returning performers include Nathan James of Trinity, winner of the Jamboree’s Youth Talent Search Contest, who will sing “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights" by Freddy Fender. Recording artist Kim Salman will perform “Delta Dawn,” made popular by recording artist Tanya Tucker. “It’s surprisin.
