Thursday, June 20, 2024 On June 19, 2024, the China National Silk Museum celebrated the grand opening of the “Heavenly Palace: Chang’an on the Silk Roads” exhibition. This extraordinary showcase is divided into five distinct themes: The Capital of the World, The Commercial Capital, The Cultural Capital, The Fashion Capital, and Chang’an and Zhejiang. The Silk Road has historically served as a crucial bridge for the fusion, exchange, and dialogue between Eastern and Western civilizations over nearly two millennia, fostering global prosperity.

Ancient Chang’an, along this historic route, epitomized values of openness, inclusiveness, diversity, and harmony, showcasing the enduring legacy of the Han and Tang dynasties and shining a light on Chinese civilization worldwide. Zhejiang, pivotal at both ends of the ancient Silk Roads, continues to play a key role in the Belt and Road Initiative, symbolizing peace, cooperation, mutual learning, and shared benefits across vast distances and ages. During the Han and Tang dynasties, Chang’an stood as the starting point of the Silk Road, a vital hub connecting East and West across Eurasia.

Known for its thriving economy, rich culture, and welcoming spirit, Chang’an emerged as a global metropolis and a vibrant center for cultural exchange between China and the world. 2024 marks the tenth anniversary of UNESCO’s recognition of “Silk Roads: the Routes Network of Chang’an-Tianshan Corridor” as a World Heritage site.
