One thing HBO didn’t have to contend with in the 2000s was round-the-clock surveillance from film set paparazzi – much like those who have been stationed in and around Manhattan to document all the costumes that and co have worn while filming the third instalment of . (I have lost track of the number of films and television programmes that I feel as though I have seen despite never having watched for this exact reason.) That might explain why this season’s cast has started to upload their characters’s headline outfits to Instagram: to take back control and bring the marketing in-house.

It means that – while an exact premiere date has yet to even be announced – we have seen ; ; and Sarah Jessica Parker dressed in a rose-stuffed dress. That particular design debuted in – where fresh flowers were bunched between layers of sheer tulle to evoke the idea of bouquets being thrown to ballerinas – and has since become a frequent presence on the red carpet and in magazine editorials. Consider it this season’s equivalent to the threadbare skirt.



.. or the dreaded Zara polka dot dress of 2019.
