A businessman viciously headbutted his girlfriend and repeatedly kicked her in the back during an "appalling" drink-fuelled confrontation after a heated argument got out of control. Father-of-three Michael Beal caused a "nasty" injury during the "very unpleasant" attack on the woman. He had earlier hurled spiteful insults at her after an evening out suddenly went badly wrong, Hull Crown Court heard.

Beal, 46, of Stanley Jackson Way, Welton, near Brough, admitted assaulting the woman, causing actual bodily harm, on March 18, 2022. He denied intentional strangulation between July 29 and August 1, 2022 and that charge was dropped. They went out for some food and drink with a friend. A bad-tempered argument later started in a taxi and Beal hurled abuse at his girlfriend, including saying that she was a "s**g" and a "worthless piece of s***". The heated argument continued when they got home and Beal became more aggressive.

He threw a deodorant can and an electric shaver at the woman but they missed her and hit a TV behind her, damaging it. He grabbed her by her hair and he pulled her in the direction of the bathroom for a few seconds. She escaped his grip and ran into her son's bedroom to grab his mobile phone in a bid to try to record on it what he was saying.
