“This is so easy,” I said to a MAGA friend of mine. “The smart thing would be for the Democrats to nominate Gretchen Whitmer for president, and she should name Mitt Romney or Liz Cheney or someone like that as vice-president, and this thing is done.” “You’re right,” my MAGA friend said, before he burst the balloon.

“But no one ever got into politics because they were smart.” I mean ..

. he’s probably not wrong. And there’s zero chance that pipe dream above is going to come to fruition.

But man oh man, the Democrats sure do find themselves in a pickle when it comes to President Joe Biden. The debate was a debacle, the Friday night interview was not much better. George Stephanopoulos asked Biden, “Did you watch the debate afterwards?” to which Biden replied, “I don’t think I did, no.

” It’s not like Stephanopoulos asked, “Do you remember seeing a woman in a purple dress in Thom McAn trying on a pair of wedge sandals in the Christiana Mall in September of 1975?” He asked him if he watched himself on the television. This was not a ponderous query. The only two possible answers were “yes” or “no.

” But this proved too large a hill for Biden to climb. Watching that interview last week made two things very clear to me: One, Biden is not in charge. There is clearly a cadre behind him, including his wife and son, who are pushing him to stay in the race.

They’re clearly telling him he’s the best chance to beat back Trump. I think Biden act.
