Our Picks There is something to be said for the feeling one can get from a cup of warm brewed solace. Whether for a cup of tea, French press , pour-over or ramen, the best electric kettle is a great tool to have in the kitchen.

Not only can it boil water fast -- we're talking seconds -- but it can do so safely. I've nearly started a kitchen fire two separate times (20 years apart) while boiling water on the stovetop. Electric kettles generally come with an automatic shut-off feature (boil dry protection) when the kettle runs dry, to avoid excess heat when the kettle gets empty.

They also make hot water faster than a stovetop kettle does. In my testing, the electric kettles heated water to boiling 25 to 50% faster than my traditional stovetop kettle. When you're in a rush, it makes a huge difference to have one less thing dragging you down on your way out the door.

How do you choose which electric kettle is best for you? There are a ton of options out there, but we're here to help. All of the kettles I tested did exactly what they claimed, and there were none I'd specifically recommend against. Picking the right one for you will depend upon the features you need like a keep-warm setting and temperature control, your aesthetic whether you like a gooseneck electric kettle or if the standard look fits your vibe, and your budget.
