Photo: Contributed BC United Party logo The BC United Party has released its plans for improvements to Highway 5A if it forms government after the Oct. 19 election. In a news release, the party listed numerous improvements it intends to make to the highway between Kamloops and Stump Lake.
The party said it will immediately implement safety improvements on and around Cardeau Hill, including widening corners and fixing nightlines, fixing a dangerous corner at Longs Mill on Shumway Lake and constructing a northbound chain-up area near Shumway Lake south of Campbell Creek Road. The BCU said it will also construct a chain-off area at the top of Cardeau Hill near Separation Road. It also said it would construct a chain-up area at Long Lake Road for Knutsford Hill, install a ‘Do Not Use Jake Brake’ sign on Knutsford Hill northbound and install a light at Knutsford Hall.
“Highway 5A continues to experience significant traffic volumes, including commercial truck traffic,” BC United MLA for Kamloops-South Thompson Todd Stone said in a press release. “We need to address these challenges in a coordinated fashion, and only BC United has a plan to invest in our Interior roads.” In the release, Thompson-Nicola Regional District Area L (Grasslands) director Doug Haughton said these upgrades are needed, especially those related to Cardeau Hill.
