The Crabs returned to their winning ways following a six-game losing streak last week. The Crabs came back with back-to-back wins over the Menlo Legacy, including one in walk-off fashion on Wednesday night. The series began on Tuesday with a comfortable 11-2 win for the Crabs, taking a 7-0 lead after two innings.
Humboldt grabbed three runs in the first inning, with second baseman Jett Ruby scoring on a wild pitch and two more Crabs scoring on an error by the Legacy. Humboldt plated another run via the wild pitch in the second inning, with College of the Redwoods single-season home run leader Blake Browning scoring after reaching with a single. Right fielder Victor Castaneda doubled to score Ruby and shortstop Colin Callahan.
Castaneda came around to score later in the inning on a single by Crabs’ center fielder Jehee Lee. The Legacy scratched a run across in the third inning off of Crabs starter Zach Romero who plays his college ball at UC Davis. It’d be the only run allowed for Romero who allowed only one hit over five innings of work while striking out two.
In the fourth inning, Castaneda hit his fourth home run of the summer, a solo shot by the Cal State San Marcos outfielder that pushed the Crabs’ lead to 5-1. The offense kept coming for the Crabs with a two-run double by Lee in the sixth inning that drove home Castaneda and catcher Troy Harding. Lee then scored off another error by Menlo.
