London's Design Museum has turned pink to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Barbie brand, exploring the story of the doll through the eyes of design. On display, the Barbie exhibit will include fashion items, architecture (including the Barbie Dreamhouse), furniture and vehicles. The exhibit is officially open now and will run until February 23, 2025 with more than 250 objects, including rare, unique and innovative dolls all on display.
Included in the exhibit at the Design Museum is the first ever Barbie released by Mattel, with the Number 1 Barbie dating back to 1959. Fans of the doll will be able to see the 1985 Day to Night Barbie as well as the best-selling Barbie of all time with 1992's Totally Hair Barbie which sold over 10 million across the globe. Highlighting the brand's diversity, the exhibit will display the first Black, Hispanic and Asian Barbies .
They will also show off the dolls that reflect today's diverse and multicultural society with the first Barbie with Down syndrome and the first to have a wheelchair and plus-sized doll. It's not just Barbie that's on display at the Design Museum, with her friends also making appearances including Midge, Chrisite, Tersea and Barbie's younger sister Skipper. See What's On.
