Listen to Story Former India cricketer and coach Anil Kumble believes that Arshdeep Singh's performance in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup and T20I cricket overall, puts him above the likes of Mohammed Siraj as dependable pace options in the India squad. Kumble opines Arshdeep's clinical pace and swing abilities might force India to pick him as their second choice seamer behind Jasprit Bumrah, if they choose to play only two of those when their T20 World Cup fixtures move to the West Indies. Arshdeep hasstarted off the tournament in an emphatic fashion, which heightened further after his 4/9 spell against the USA on June 12.

Arshdeep picked two wickets in his first spell and two wickets in his second spell at the Nassau County Stadium in New York against Ireland and Pakistan respectively. His phenomenal spell against the USA helped India restrict the co-hosts to just 110 runs, which later turned out to be pivotal for Rohit Sharma-led India's win, particularly when batting became extremely difficult during the chase on the tricky New York pitch. The 25-year-old ultimately bagged the Player of the Match award for his performance against the hosts, which only set strong expectations on Arshdeep and his bowling abilities as his side now walks into the more intense stage of the T20 World Cup, in the Super 8.
