PARKLAND — This year’s Kathy Murphy Student Production will turn the Parkland College Theatre pink this weekend with “Legally Blonde The Musical.” Centennial High School junior Adsen Tarr, who has seen her fair share of the stage in youth productions since she was 4 years old, will star in one of her dream roles as Delta Nu girl and aspirant lawyer Elle Woods. “She’s so cool, I aspire to be her,” Tarr said.

“She’s fashionable, she’s smart, she’s confident. She’s very inspirational to a lot of girls.” The cast, directed by Chandler Dalton, features 12- to 18-year-olds from around Champaign-Urbana and beyond.

These summer student productions are named for one of their founders, Kathy Murphy, who passed away. “Legally Blonde The Musical” opens Thursday night with a 7 p.m.

performance, which will be repeated Friday and Saturday, with a final Sunday show at 2 p.m. Tickets are available on the Champaign Urbana Theatre Company’s website.

Tarr praised everyone who came together to work on the show, from her fellow cast members to the pit and the backstage crew. “I’m so excited for the costumes, especially,” Tarr said. “And we have live dogs.

I’m so excited to work with them because they’re just so adorable.” Elle’s chihuahua sidekick Bruiser makes an appearance, as will Rufus, a bulldog who needs to be rescued from the ex-boyfriend of manicurist Paulette. Dalton has years of experience directing youth productions at St.
