A March for Mental Health Awareness, sponsored by Rotary District 5320, was held at Yorba Regional Park attracting some 300 participants, raising thousands of dollars. The 3K walk, which supports May’s Mental Health Awareness Month, was spearheaded by Rotary District governor and Anaheim Hills Rotary member, Roy Jefferson, as part of Rotary International President Gordon McInally’s request for district governors around the globe to give some focus to mental health awareness this club year. Members of Anaheim Hills Rotary were joined by Rotarians throughout Orange County and parts of Los Angeles, Interact high school Rotary clubs, Anaheim District 6 City Councilmember Natalie Meeks and members of the community.

“Nearly 50,000 people die by suicide each year, while another 100,000 attempt it and it is important to bring attention to the mental health crisis and help erase the stigma of asking for help with mental needs,” Jefferson said. Funds raised with the help of event sponsors Gen Korean BBQ, City of Anaheim, OC Supervisor Don Wagner’s office, TAWA Marketing and Jefferson’s State Farm Insurance among others, will be donated to small organizations to help support their mental health efforts. Rotary plans to make this an annual event.
