Afghanistan qualified for the semi-finals of a T-20 World Cup for the first time by beating Bangladesh by eight runs (DLS method) in a tense low-scoring classic in St. Vincent yesterday. Rain hit super eight game was dominated by Rashid Khan’s team to enter semi final after back to back victories against Australia and Bangladesh.

They started T-20 World Cup journey defeating New Zealand while their fighting spirit was very high during this tournament and head coach Jonathan Trott and bowling specialist coach Dawayne Bravo back to the team until the finish and their plan was well executed to reach semi final with a great fashion and whole team fighting quality paved the way to get this victory. Bangladesh chasing a revised target of 114 in 19 overs (due to rain) and they were all out 105 in 17.5 overs while skipper Rashid Khan and paceman Naveen-ul-Haq took four wickets each powered victory.



The victory sees them progress as runners-up from Super 8s Group 1, while putting Bangladesh, and heavyweights Australia, out of the tournament. Afghanistan will now play South Africa in Trinidad on Thursday (27) and are one match away from facing either defending T-20 champions England or India in Saturday’s final. Earlier Needing a win to advance to the knockout stage, Afghanistan underperformed with the bat, scoring 115 for 5 wickets in 20 overs.

The openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (43) and Ibrahim Zadran (18) added good start 50 in 10.4 overs but Bangladesh bowlers put a good effort to .
