What better way to unwind than by listening to some Sufi music after an eventful day of political proceedings and sessions? This particular Sufi evening was hosted to celebrate Shashi Tharoor ’s recent victory in the Lok Sabha elections . The evening was organised by his longtime friend and entrepreneur Khaver Ali Khan and his wife, Saima Nafees Khan. Fragrance of rajnigandha and gulab gajras welcomed guests as they were greeted with adaab by the hosts, who curated the evening to offer a unique cultural experience.
Qawwals from Rampur were invited to perform for this special evening. “Mr Tharoor and I have known each other from a long time and we have been very good friends. We wanted to celebrate his recent victory and we thought to do it through a qawwali night as I know that he loves music and this is something he will definitely enjoy,” said Khaver.
Dressed in a black kurta pyjama, Tharoor attended the evening with his mother. Before cutting the cake, he shared, “There won’t be too many words, specially standing between cake and music puts me in a position where brevity is certainly the indicated outcome. Just want to thank Khaver and Saima for their wonderful hospitality.
I am just delighted that they have chosen to celebrate this moment of my return to Parliament in this wonderful way with Sufi qawwali music from Rampur and so many friends who have taken the trouble to come and share the moment with us, thank you all for being here.” A counter displaying som.
