“We all sweat more in the warmer summer months . Sweat is 99 per cent water, but it also contains vital electrolytes, needed for all your body’s cellular processes, such as sodium, potassium and magnesium . If you work out in the heat, you can lose as much as three to four litres of sweat per hour.



We all know we need to drink plenty of water, but you also need to replace the lost electrolytes. Avoid energy drinks , as they are often high in caffeine, sugar and other additives, and are not recommended in the heat. Instead, make sure your summer diet contains sodium-rich foods (such as nuts and crackers), potassium-rich foods (bananas, potatoes and leafy green veg) and magnesium-rich foods (almonds, cashews, kale and spinach).
