Thursday, July 4, 2024 Millions of travelers face disruption this July due to a series of closures on the M4 motorway , a crucial route connecting Wales and England. Travel expert Alvaro Iturmendi warns that up to 80,000 drivers could be impacted daily, totaling over one million throughout the month. The Prince of Wales Bridge on the M4 westbound will be closed for three separate periods: Monday, July 8th, Tuesday, July 9th, and Saturday, July 20th.
Additionally, a single eastbound closure is scheduled for the night of Wednesday, July 10th. This closure is necessary to implement a contraflow system for upcoming resurfacing works. Following the eastbound bridge reopening on July 11th, traffic will be reduced to two lanes until the resurfacing project’s completion, estimated for late autumn 2024.
These closures coincide with peak summer travel season, potentially causing significant delays for those traveling between Wales and England. Iturmendi advises travelers to consider alternative routes, such as the M48 Severn Bridge, and to allow ample extra journey time..
