Thursday, June 20, 2024 Today, WestJet attended a session with the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to address its request for arbitration concerning negotiations with the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and Tech Ops employees, marking a pivotal step in resolving the ongoing dispute. The CIRB has indicated that it needs more time and additional submissions from both WestJet and the employees’ representatives before deciding whether arbitration is the appropriate path to finalize the collective bargaining agreement. Simultaneously, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) has withdrawn its strike notice.

Both parties have mutually agreed to return to the negotiating table to pursue further discussions aimed at reaching a resolution. Diederik Pen, President of WestJet Airlines and Group Chief Operating Officer, acknowledged the challenges faced by guests and employees due to the initial disruptions caused by the negotiations. He expressed gratitude for their patience and understanding throughout this process.



“In resuming negotiations, our priority remains finding a solution that prevents any further operational disruptions,” stated Diederik Pen. WestJet is actively working to restore normal flight schedules swiftly and with utmost safety considerations in place. Passengers are advised to check their flight statuses before heading to the airport for the latest updates.
